Photoshop 2022 (Version 23.1.1) [Mac/Win] [April-2022] When you open Photoshop, the first thing you see is the Photoshop window. In the following list, we detail the tools and options available on the Photoshop window: The Layers panel: You can use this panel to create or delete layers. These layers are a canvas on which you work. The panel has a ton of useful features. You can drag any of the tools that appear on the toolbox to different areas on the canvas to use them (as shown in Figure 1-4). For example, you can move the pencil tool, as shown in the figure, to the toolbox by right-clicking the pencil tool and choosing the Toolbox option from the context menu. You can also open the toolbox and choose any of the tools, including choosing a tool from the panel with the Direct Selection tool. Figure 1-4: The toolbox offers many tools that you can drag to different areas. The Toolbox: Using the Toolbox lets you access a collection of tools, such as the Lasso tool, the Type tool, and the pen tool. The Toolbox is great for helping you create or edit items on the canvas; therefore, we cover it in more detail in Book II, Chapter 1. The History palette: This palette contains thumbnail images of all the changes you've made. You may also preview the selected layer in different ways in the History palette. In the Transparency panel (see Figure 1-5), select the area you want to show transparent and hide the part that you don't want to be transparent. The top layer is currently the topmost layer. The Menu bar: The Menu bar is where you access many different features, from opening a file to opening a selection tool to adjusting brush settings and more. You can open any of these options from the Menu bar, or you can scroll through the list of available options and open one by clicking its name, as shown in Figure 1-6. In this figure, you see the open Window menu from the Menu bar on the left side of the Photoshop window. Just about every option in Photoshop is under the Window menu, so we cover the Window menu options in more detail in Book II, Chapter 2. Jerry Brown, in office just over a year, is trying to engineer an inter-party debate between a Republican and a Democrat on how to fix the state’s budget mess – a debate that could include other Republican candidates as well. Brown’s office and the Republican candidate for governor, Assemblyman Tim Donnelly, who also is the former Republican mayor of Golden, have been meeting since last week to exchange ideas on how to fix the budget deficit – and on what the difference between the candidates is. “He invited me to join him in a meeting with some of his consultants and members of his staff on Monday,” Donnelly said, adding, “We’re meeting tomorrow to talk about what they’ve been doing.” Both Brown and Donnelly are political veterans, both running for a second term in office. Brown, 76, has been the governor for eight years, but he was first elected to the state Assembly in 1970. Donnelly, 60, was first elected mayor of Golden in 1991. Brown’s proposal would raise taxes on the wealthiest Californians, which would require a two-thirds majority vote of the Legislature. Donnelly would eliminate the $9.2 billion Cap-and-Trade bill, which provides the state with revenue for green energy projects, but provides no state dollars for public education. Until last year, Donnelly was the mayor of Golden. When he stepped down, he was succeeded by his brother, former state Assemblyman Tim Donnelly, who lost the Republican primary this past week to state Sen. Mike Morrell. Donnelly was given the top slot on the state GOP’s ticket with the support of former state party chair Ron Nehring, who is expected to run for U.S. Senate.
